After thoughts on the Ces Drilon and Company Kidnap Story

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

The highly respected news anchor Ces Drilon and 2 of his cameramen of ABS-CBN were kidnapped last June 8, 2008 in Sulu and were released after almost 10 days.

Until now the story is not yet finished and had become more unclear, with succeeding events such as the arrest of Mayor Isnaji and his son being suspected as the mastermind of the kidnapping and then the issues of the ransom money that was given. And nobody knows when and how will this story ends.

I am just wondering why would some people have to lie knowingly during some press interviews regarding the ransom money. They even emphasized that it was our governments policy not to give any ransom and then in the end the truth will just come out that there was indeed a ransom money.

Should they just shut up their mouth and avoid answering questions from the press when they know that they are just consciously lying to the people.

I guess I am just really so naive in believing everything I hear on the news, and expecting people to be truthful to what they are saying to the public. And - I am only realizing that after the kidnap of Ms. Drilon… :-)

Gintong Pamana in The Probe Theme | A Priceless Filipino Heritage

Gintong Pamana is another excellent documentary episode from Cheche Lazaro of The Probe Team.

It a fairytale-like story of how a man found stuff made of gold - lots of gold while working in a field. It started as a poor man’s story of happiness as he found wealth that could assure him and his family of a better life. A story of greed for some people who have been blinded by their wicked personal interest. A story of trust on how the man trusted people to guide him on his new found treasure - and of betrayal. And yet, of the man’s generosity as he still shared what was left with his blessings to the less fortunate.

But most of all a story that has changed the history of the Philippines. Because the gold were not just a simple story of buried treasures being unearthed. They are buried treasures of our history - a proof of a rich and sophisticated culture of our ancestors even before the Spaniards governed our country. The golds were all intricately and beautifully designed as belt, accessories, “alambay”, jewelries and other things all with the absence of modern machineries.
A rich inheritance that had almost been destroyed by unawareness but thanks to some people who have recognized priceless treasures and made efforts to use their power and money to preserve the -Gintong Pamana.

Although, the man didn’t become a millionaire and the golds are no longer in his hands, but it would forever be in Filipino history - that they were the hands who have unearthed the gintong pamana of our ancestors.

I no longer see Philippines history in the image of the timawa, the alipin, or the anito. The Gintong Pamana although are now revealed and some of them are preserved, still is shrouded by some great mystery of who our ancestors are really are…

ABS-CBN vs. GMA | Real or Reel?

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Here in the Philippines, they are saying that there is a big war between two giant networks… that is ABS-CBN also known as Kapamilya and GMA-7 a/k/a Kapuso or (Kanguso hehehe joke) :D. Ratings are extremely being the concern of almost everybody. But here is what I think why the competition is reel…

I am writing this blog not because, I favor one network over the other. I regularly watch TV for the purpose of entertaining myself as well as getting information on what’s going on with the “world“.

More often than not, I am watching Kapamilya shows, simply because I am being entertained by their programs. But, I also like some GMA shows.

So, what about the competition? Is there really a competition?

Here are some arguments I would like to share why I think there is really no competition:

1. We all know that ABS-CBN is the pioneer, in terms of technology and concepts, everything new, we hear and see it first at ABS-CBN.

  • Just like, the teleseryes, fantaseryes, asian novelas, it all started in Kapamilya. As well as the Regional Networks and the TFC and many more. I see it this way, ABS-CBN will formulate and try new concepts first and if it is good, GMA is free to incorporate that concept to their network.

2. If the choice of the majority of the most respected, most popular Pinay / Pinoy in the Entertainment world is ABS-CBN, surely because, they know that it is the best place to be. Am I right? :-)

  • As I’ve said majority, meaning some are also in GMA.
  • But, I just noticed this… is it true that most Stars are transferring to ABS-CBN because they wanted to be more known/popular, to have better exposure? (GMA have proven that these talents are good in their crafts, they just wanted greener pastures)
  • While, (sorry to say this) those who are turning their option to GMA are those who are being neglected in Kapamilya due to over population of stars? ( same reason for those who hopped back & forth)
  • But, I also recognize that some are moving because of principle. (Jolina M. and Tito, Vic & Joey to name a few)

To conclude, I believe, there is really no competition here but a helping-one-another-system. Each network is leading other networks to improve the quality of TV entertainment they can offer to us televiewers. It just so happens that ABS-CBN is more innovative. (heheh, so we are the lucky benefactors :D)

Ratings are purely for advertising purposes only, advertisers are placing their Ads to TV shows and Stars who they think would benefit them more. Anyway, sometimes, they are still not that 100% reliable. (not unless every TV has this station-checking-device…LOL). But it is 100% true that The Top Ten Endorsers of 2007 are from ABS-CBN.

Well, just some of my thoughts. Peace to everybody :-)

Meaning of Michelle

What is the meaning of your name?

I’ve read an article by Bo Sanchez about the meaning of name. The introduction line was “Your Name Is A Clue To Your Calling, Find The Meaning Of Your Name—And You May Find The Meaning Of Your Life.”
At first I was just curious to know the meaning of my name regardless of what it may mean to my life and so I searched it in the Google and here’s what i found.

Michelle – pronounced as (mee-shell), is of French and Hebrew origin, and its meaning is “who resembles God”, Close to God. Feminine form of Michael: Who is like God? Gift from God.

I love what I found about the meaning of Michelle, I used to think that my name is so common, sometimes they used to pronounce it as /mee-cel/. And in our family the name of my 3 siblings are all starting with letter R, Ronel, Racquel and and Rochelle because my father’s name starts with R as well, Rodrigo, they got the pattern in his name, except me the youngest. But I was baptized by the name Rio Michelle but in a reason that I cannot explain Rio have “vanished” in my birth certificate. By the way Rio means river in Spanish, and Jasmine or Center in Japanese.

Gift of God, close to God – huh! My name has so much weight on its meaning. And I hope I could live up to the meaning of my name, that is to be a gift of God not only to my family, but to be a “Gift of God” to all the people I would meet in my life. But more than anything else I would like to dwell on the the second meaning of Michelle – that is “Close to God”. (and I hope I would forever be…)

So, what is the meaning of your name?
